O Holy Night

Evelyn's Note
24in x 36in, oil on masonite
I haven't done a big piece like this for a while and was ready for a size change. I'd been working pretty small and those paintings seemed to be looser, but then when I would work larger it always tightened up on me. I used a lot bigger brushes and forced myself to work everything as a whole and not to get stuck in one area. I used a very limited palette so I could concentrate on my brush marks, texture, and value.

Commission Work
I work as an art teacher at a local art studio and lately I've had commissions to paint many of my students. I've learned a lot about painting kids, the subtle and more gentle approach needed, in contrast to painting adults. These are all 11 x 14, oil on masonite.
